In 2017, while playing basketball with friends, Joe’l Gonzalez’s life changed forever. During a seemingly ordinary game, he suffered a serious spinal cord injury and was rushed to the hospital where he was diagnosed with being paralyzed from the chest down.
Soon after being contacted about Joe’l’s accident, our team met with him and his beautiful family to learn more about his story as well as his goals. During the meeting, we could sense his determination and his never give up attitude to beat paralysis.
Joe’l is a fighter, and his positive attitude made it very easy for our team to want to help he and his family during his recovery. In May 2018, we completed a $10,000 grant for his continued therapy at Journey Forward, New England’s premier paralysis rehabilitation facility. We were thrilled to partner with NHL Hall of Famer Ray Bourque and The Bourque Family Foundation as they matched our contribution of $10,000. In doing so, Joe’l will be able to attend Journey Forward for the rest of the year at no cost. Congratulations Joe’l, you are an inspiration to all of us!
